Visitors to the USA for short term stay in the US are eligible for policies under the Visitor category. All work visas, student and scholar visas, as well as fiances, tourists or diplomat visas are eligible for these plans. The only exceptions are green card holders and immigrants who intend to stay in the US long term.
There are two types of plans: fixed and comprehensive.
Fixed plans pay a set amount for each medical expense. So, for minor expenses, like flu or minor injuries, these plans should cover fairly well (although they may never cover 100% of expenses).
Comprehensive plans, by contrast, offer more complete coverage and a maximum out-of-pocket expense can be calculated for these (deductible + coinsurance amount).
